Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of shape do I need to be in?

You do not need to be in phenomenal shape to join our guided hikes. It is equally important that you come with a good attitude and a willingness to follow direction and accept assistance when needed. We make sure we set all our hikes at a reasonable pace, based off group abilities and all our hikes have lots of breaks and time to smell, see and hear all that is going on around us.

  • What if I have a food allergy or dietary restriction?

We can cater our food to almost any dietary restrictions or food allergies. This includes, but is not limited to: gluten-free, celiac, vegan, vegetarian or any allergies.

If you do have an allergy of any sort it is your responsibility to make sure you are carrying 2 epipens with you at all times. 1 you will carry and 1 will be given to your guide for the trip to insure we are 100% ready for any issues that may arise.

  • What is included in your trips?

All our trips include transportation, ACMG certified hiking guide(s), locally sourced and healthy meals, and all required permits and insurances.

Some hikes include more than others. For those details please see the specific hike page you are interested in.

  • Why would I book to do a hike with a guide vs. hike on my own?

Doing a hike with a guide offers a stress free way to complete any sort of hike from a day hike to the West Coast Trail. Our guides make sure that all the preparation is taken care of, we know where to go, we know where the best spots to take breaks and have lunch are, we can answer questions about the local plants and wildlife on the hike as well as the history of the area, we supply all the required park permits and fees that you would normally be required to pay, and we always try to leave all our guests with a deeper knowledge of hiking and camping best practices and information about the area being hiked in.

  • Is there a group discount rate?

Yes for all our hikes any group of 6 or more will receive a 10% group discount rate. Please see “Terms & Conditions” for more details

  • What is your cancellation and refund policy if my schedule changes?

Our cancellation and refund policy is full refund minus a 10% (of the total price of the trip) cancellation penalty if the trip is cancelled 91 days or more prior to the start date of your trip. After the 90 day mark all payments are due in full and non-refundable. We highly recommend you purchase your own Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance in case of any unforseen circumstances that may arise after the 90 day mark.  Please see “Terms & Conditions” for more details

  • What if I don’t have my own gear?

That is okay we rent almost all gear at a discounted rate to guests hiking with us. We work with Outdoor Research, Osprey Packs, MSR, Black Diamond and others to provide high quality gear.

Please see “Gear Rental PDF” for prices

  • What type of tents do you supply?

In all our overnight trips we supply 1 x 2 person MSR Elixir tent for every 2 people.

If you are hiking on your own you can choose to share a tent with another single or rent your own 1 person MSR Hubba Hubba tent for an additional $49

  • Can I join a trip on my own?

Of course! About 25% of all our guests come as singles. All our prices are based off double occupancy on any hotel night stays or tent use. For all our trips if you would like your own hotel room and/or tent there is always an option available for a single supplemental charge Please “Contact Us” for more details on these charges.

  • Is there an age restriction?

Yes. If joining a hike we require all our guests are 19 years or older.

If you are booking a custom group hike we can allow guests under 19 years old based on situation by situation. Please “Contact Us” for more details.

  • What if my family needs to get a hold of me while we are out on the trail?

All our guides carry satellite communication with them. So if there ever is an emergency at home or someone needs to get a hold of you while you are out hiking the trail with us they can contact our office and the on call contact based in the office for the trip will get the message out to the guides.

  • Is there somewhere I can leave my luggage while we are out hiking?

Guests are always free to leave luggage or personal belongings in our vans that are parked out at the trailheads while we are out hiking.

However please note that we cannot be responsible or liable if the van is broken into or any personal belongings are stolen from the van while we are out hiking.
