The town of Fernie lies in the Rocky Mountain Trench of Southeastern BC, just 1.5 hours drive east of Kimberley. Fernie is famous for its steep and deep powder skiing, world-class mountain biking, and stunning mountain peaks. Heiko's Trail is known as one of the most iconic hikes in the Eastern Kootenay Region of BC. Built by Heiko Socher - longtime local and founder of Fernie Alpine Resort - the all day hike covers 21kms, two mountain passes and 1200m of elevation gain.

Highlights of Heiko’s Trail are plenty, including wildflower meadows, mountain passes, caves, canyons and waterfalls. This hike conveniently concludes at the world-renowned Island Lake Lodge, a stunning full service backcountry lodge with 5 star dining. Packages can be created to include accommodation and dining as the ultimate après-hike reward.

Heiko’s Trail is one of many hikes in the Fernie area that is a must do for anyone who considers themselves a nature or outdoors lover.
